Final Exam Part Three

In this picture, the main compositional element is Rule Of Thirds. The photographer achieved this by placing the subject on the edge of the frame, the subject becomes an off center focus of then picture. This creates a dramatic effect.
The element in this picture is leading lines and rule of thirds. The photographer achieved this by showing off where this path leads, because the is on line on the right side of the picture this effect is possible. For the ruler of thirds, the subject (woman) is on the outer right side of the picture. As if the picture as cut into thirds.
The elements in the picture are ruler of thirds and depth of field. This is made by placing the male soldier on the part of the picture. He is off center thus making the picture more dramatic. Also, the photographer achieved depth of field by blurring the background, giving the subject a more 3-D feel.
The element in this photograph is simplicity. The photographer achieved this by putting the subject (the man) agains a completely neutral background. This puts all the attention on the man.

Final Exam Part Two

Self Portrait And Portraits Review

Top three tips for shooting a self portrait!

 • Set timer high and use burst
 • Let the environment play a role
 • Use hobbies and past times as a theme

 Environmental Portraits

I like these portraits because they capture emotions. The first one on the left captures sorrow and pain. The second one captures grace and power perfectly.

Casual Portraits

I like these pictures because they portray a nice human emotion with nice backgrounds.

Formal Portraits

I like these pictures because they are well taken, very professional.

Self Portraits

I like these self portraits because they pay attention to the details, they are simply beautiful.

Self Portrait Assignment Ideas

I want to make a true self portrait and use myself as the subject, I want to shoot somewhere with a lot of flowers, or maybe a really urban setting. I'm not sure what I'll do to make the shot successful yet, but I know for sure that I want my portrait to be in black and white. I want to use a tripod if at all possible.

Caption Writing: 5 Ws and H

Following a crackdown that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of student demonstrators in Beijing, a lone Chinese protester steps in front of People's Liberation Army tanks in Tiananmen Squarein 1989. At least five photographers captured the event, which became a symbol of defiance in the face of oppression. Charlie Cole, working for Newsweek, won a World Press Photo Award for his version of the image. The identity and fate of the "Tank Man" remains unclear.
Following the massacre of his 2500 fellow North Koreans, Ok Son Kwan, decided to, on his own, stop the North Koreans from invading South Korea on Sept. 22, 2017. At the North South Korean Border, Kwan stands in front of a fleet of North Korean Tanks in a defiant act of love and hatred to scream at the North Koreans to go home. Kwan was then curtly, blown off the face of the world with the tank's artillery.
Richard Drew captured this image of a man falling from the World Trade Center in New York after the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. Its publication led to a public outcry from people who found the photograph insensitive. Drew sees it differently. On the 10th anniversary of the attacks, he said he considers the falling man an "unknown soldier" who he hopes "represents everyone who had that same fate that day." It's believed that upwards of 200 people fell or jumped to their deaths after the planes hit the towers.

President Barack Obama and members of his national security team monitor the Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. It was a crucial moment in American history, and White House photographer Pete Souza captured the tension in the room. "It was probably one of the most anxiety-filled periods of time, I think, in the lives of the people who were assembled," counterterrorism adviser John Brennan later told reporters. A classified document on the table was obscured by the White House.
The United States Government are some of the most powerful people in the world, but even they need a break once in while. Here they are seen watching the Super Bowl XLVII. The game was played on February 3, 2013. At the White House, the members of the US government anxiously watch as the Ravens make a run towards the end zone. Upon the Ravens' victory, President Obama jumped up and down and kissed Hilary Clinton.
Boston Globe photographer John Tlumacki was near the finish line when 78-year-old runner Bill Iffrig was knocked down by the first explosion at the Boston Marathon on April 15. The bombings left three people dead and injured more than 100. Iffrig got up and finished the race. Tlumacki's image of the fallen runner was widely published and selected for the cover of "Sports Illustrated."
Carl Nebbercracker AKA " Old Man Nebbercracker " a 79 year old illegal steroid smuggler, is caught on camera on the ground as police officials rush to arrest Nebbercracker. On Sept. 3 during the Austin 24k marathon located in downtown Austin, police received intel that the most powerful steroid drug lord in North America decided to have a go at 24 kilometers. Nebbercracker ran exactly 23.99 kilometers before being hurriedly rushed by the Austin Police. Later on after drug testing, Nebbercracker was found to be shot up full of steroids for the run, guess who was becoming sterile?

Great Black And White Photographers Part 3

The strength and message behind the pictures are what caught my eye.
 • I see shadows. I see fluttering darkness, and dark secrets. I see human pain and suffering, but in a dark and beautiful way.
 • I smell roses. I smell a musty cellar.
 • I hear cries and a rambling river. I hear the rustling of intertwined roses against a lazy breeze.
 • I taste disgustingly sweet perfume for some reason. I also taste cool refreshing water.
 • I feel a rose's thorns and human skin. I also felt a raw human emotion. Perhaps it is pain, this picture invokes many feelings.
 • I would like to create perhaps make a poster in honor of the photographer.

Africa Powerpoint, Purpose Of Photography

Wow, this is a truly beautiful powerpoint, it is simply majestic scenery, these are moving images

This picture makes the lion look like a true king of Africa. He looks absolutely majestic. This picture is my favorite because it gives me a sense of raw, untamed power.
The rule used here is simplicity, the sole subject of this picture is the lion.

The photographer, Nick Brandt uses a He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
Frustrated that he could not capture on film his feelings about and love for animals, he realized there was a way to achieve this through photography, in a way that he felt no-one had really done before.

" I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild. What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being. In the state of Being before they are no longer are." said Nick

"Before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes " he continued

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. The challenge I encountered was getting good timing for each subject.
2. The hardest technical aspect of photography was holding the camera still, i overcame this difficulty by breathing out as I took the picture.
3. I would have better focus on my subject.
4. I would have the same subjects.
5. Rule of Thirds
6. Simplicity
7. Balance, I would ask the teacher.

Elements Of Art

 Elements Of Art

Lines- are marks made by a pointed tool: brush, pencil, pen, etc. Lines can vary in width, direction, curvature, length, or color.
Shapes- are formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet. Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals.
Color- wheels show the primary colors, secondary colors, and the tertiary (intermediate) colors. They also show the relationships between complementary colors across from each other, such as blue and orange; and analogous (similar or related) colors next to each other such as yellow, green, and blue. Black and white may be thought of as colors but, in fact, they are not. White light is the presence of all color; black is the absence of reflected light and therefore the absence of color.
Value, or tone, refers to dark and light; the value scale refers to black and white with all gradations of gray in between. Value contrasts help us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art.
Form describes objects that are three-dimensional, having length, width, and height.
Texture can be rough, bumpy, slick, scratchy, smooth, silky, soft, prickly--the list is endless. Texture refers to the surface quality, both simulated and actual, of artwork.
Space refers to distances or areas around, between, or within components of a piece. Space can be positive (white or light) or negative (black or dark), open or closed, shallow or deep, and two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

Balance is the comfortable or pleasing arrangement of things in art. There are three different types of balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial. The human figure is symmetrically balanced; the same on the left and right side. The tree is asymmetrically balanced; its branches are not distributed equally on each side, but their total weight is balanced left and right. The sun is an example of radial balance; all its rays are equal in length from the center.
Contrast is created by using elements that conflict with one another. Often contrast is created using complementary colors or extremely light and dark values. Contrast creates interest in a piece and often draws the eyes to certain areas. It is used to make a pairing look interesting.

Emphasis in the focal area of an artwork gives it importance. An artist may stress some elements of the design over others. The eye of the viewer will focus on the area of emphasis or center of interest first, then take in the rest of the composition.
Movement in an artwork means the artist is taking viewers on a trip through the work by means of lines, edges, shapes, and colors often leading to the focal area. Movement is a visual flow through the composition. It can be the suggestion of motion in a design as you move from object to object by way of placement and position. Directional movement can be created with a value pattern. It is with the placement of dark and light areas that you can move your attention through the format.
Patterns are made in art when the same shapes or elements are repeated again and again. Pattern uses the elements of art in planned or random repetitions to enhance surfaces of paintings or sculptures.
Unity means that all elements in an artwork are in harmony. Unity brings together a composition with similar units. For example, if your composition was using wavy lines and organic shapes you would stay with those types of lines and not put in even one geometric shape.
The Gossips by Norman Rockwell
The elements of art is present in this picture because it shows many of the crucial elements.
This picture has elements such as contrast, value, texture and many others.
